A Whole New Year- I am the Captain of my Soul

Be KIND. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. 💙
be kind
You never really know a person’s story. There are so many pieces to my story, my life. I try to project positivity because the world is hard enough. Hope that I can teach the next few generations that being a bystander in life is giving their implicit approval. Speak up, Show up, and NEVER give up.

triumph-over-adversity

The past year has proven to be a journey unto itself. Moved out to the country. Made moves to be able to work my dream job- cough cough- hard work pays off. Let myself move on. I gave myself some much needed grace. I know that I deserve happiness. I am bigger than my circumstances. I am stronger than my circumstances.

Now back to 2017.

So far I was able to get certified to teach AP Seminar, a spectacular new approach to teaching that is changing lives. I am teaching over 100 kind souls US History. I coached HS Varsity Track. Now I am the Head Coach of the Varsity Boy’s Soccer Team. My Farmhouse? Feels like home. Family trips were made to San Diego this summer and I relished in the sound of kids laughing, sand in my toes (and ear if we’re honest).

2017? 2017 has been one of the hardest years emotionally.

But through the pain, there grew tremendous opportunities, and pure joy.

Invictus Poem

Invictus

BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
Years ago I memorized this poem. The power of words knows no bounds. Sometimes, just sometimes, you need to say the words until you believe them yourself. OVER and OVER.
I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.
What words helped you in your time of need? Would love to hear from you!
