The Toddler

Dear Sweet Toddler,
You are growing up so fast, too fast. You are a little gentleman and the best big brother that we could have ever hoped for. Your relationship with Em is special and you two have your own language. You are her protector, comedian, partner-in-crime, and shoulder to cry on-literally. We didn’t ask you to carry these burdens, but you take them on each and every day.
You love to read and will happily read books any time of the day. You love books so much that I can actually use that as a punishment to take away if you are ever in trouble.
You love riding your trike, your gliding bike, and anything to do with cars. ANYTHING to do with cars, trucks, planes, choo choos, and animals. We went to the Natural History Museum with you a couple of weeks ago to show you the dinosaurs- you were beyond impressed(as was your dad and I). You still talk about seeing the dinosaurs and the flash-flood demonstration that they do. We plan to go back each month with you. Love seeing the world through your eyes. Being able to see those giant bones up close left you in awe.
We go on outings throughout the week: pool visits, splash pads, Children’s Museum, Zoo, Train Table at the Mall, park… although now that it is summer we are more relegated to indoor or water activities. You LOVE playing on the slip-in-slide in the backyard and baby pool with Em. You blow bubbles, make chalk shapes, and chase your sister on the big toy.
You are a gentle giant. Thankgoodness because you could give someone a wallop. You are clearly over 42 inches tall and weight in at over 40 pounds. You are in size 12 shoes….. You are still in the 99% for both height and weight. You wear 4T shorts and pants- 4Tshirts and some 3T PJs. Packing away all of your small toddler clothes makes me cry. You are growing so big and strong!
You know your numbers, letters, colors, and shapes. We color, paint, draw throughout the week. Art is important to you and you love to color. Crayons and paint are your favorite. I proudly display your work throughout the house and the first thing you do when someone new comes over is to show them your projects.
You skip, and jump, dance and shake your tushie with our nightly family dance parties. You and Em dance next to each other and crack each other up.
You talk in sentences now. You can ask questions and voice your concerns. You ask questions all day. One of the favorite add-ons to any of the questions is asking if our other family members do whatever you were asking about. Example- “Does Uncle Bill go to sleep at night?” “Yes, Uncle Bill goes to sleep at night.” “Does Aunt Darcy go to sleep at night?” “Yes, Aunt Darcy goes to sleep at night.” Does Aunt Rachel? Nana? Makena? Kailani? Momma? Em? Dadda?” For almost every question of the day I get these as a follow-up. You don’t leave anyone out, ever. The only name you have a problem with is Makena- but you get better each day.
You wanted your pictures taken after Em had her 10 month pictures done. And you proudly asked for the two sticker because you are two years old. Never mind that is says months after it. You LOVED having a special sticker on just like Em and posing with your lovie just like your little sister.
You are our little man. We are so proud to see how kind and gentle your soul is.
We love you with all our hearts.
Love always,
Mom and Dad
