Dirty Girl Mud Run 2013

A big thanks goes out to East Valley Women’s Blog for my entry!!!

On Saturday we set our alarm for 6AM. Got the kids up, dressed and on the road for our trip up north to Scottsdale! Took about an hour to get up to the race and our little one’s were troopers for how early it was.

We parked easily enough and navigated the double stroller through the dirt fields over to registration. There were so many tents set up and everything was clearly marked.

I registered, received my swag bag with my t-shirt and then headed over to get pins to put my numbers on. On my registration card-there was a beer ticket-YUM-and a tab to remove to be able to store a bag of goodies for after you finish-like clean clothes, cell phone, essentials. Since the Hubby and little ones were my cheering squad I just shoved two towels and a change of clothes under the stroller. FYI: Bring another pair of shoes!

At the end of the race you can donate your shoes to a charity that will clean them up and give them to someone in need-talk about awesome! After my second pregnancy I have come to terms with the fact that my feet are now easily a half-size bigger. So I went through my running shoes and found two pairs of Nike’s that were way too tight. At the beginning of the race I donated those and kept my dirty pair of sneakers-to clean up-because they are the only ones that fit now.

Hoarding nice shoes over the years proved to be fruitless.

Best cheerleaders on the course! The Hubby actually ran from obstacle to obstacle to cheer and take pictures! The Toddler clapped and yelled, “Hi Mom!” as I ran(jogged) by…

Dirty Girl is a 5k womens only run for women of all ages and athletic abilities. Don’t worry, it’s not a “race” in the traditional sense.
It is an untimed obstacle course designed to push you slightly out of your comfort zone, but only as far as you are comfortable going. Forming teams is encouraged, and so is helping your fellow Dirty Girls get through to the finish. At a Dirty Girl Mud Run you’ll find excitement, laughter, and camaraderie—as well as lots of music and even some adult beverages. It’s a day you’ll never forget.

This was a monstrosity!

My whole goal was to get through the football course and make it to the pyramid first so that I could go up as fast/slow as I wanted…. some of the inflatables had weight limits and you had to wait to complete the obstacle-not a big deal at all-waiting helped catch my breath-and frankly I only ever had to wait at the huge dunk tank obstacle-but I knew my family was on the other side and I wanted to see what this 3 month postpartum body could do! That’s me on the top right making my way down… you could hear me scream-laughing for miles-contends the Hubby.

Running after a mud pit…

MY FAVORITE PART?

The massive structure you climbed and then slid down. The rough texture of the slide made me think I wasn’t going to go that fast…

BOY WAS I WRONG.

I lost my stomach-slid so fast my mouth was open from screaming-as were my eyes… A TON OF MUDDY FUN. All I kept saying was, “It’s in my mouth…IT’S IN MY MOUTH!”. Again, a scream heard around the town-a happy scream-but a scream nonetheless!

Mud Tunnel-note to self-wear capris for easier crawling…

There were 12 obstacles- mud pits, humongous cargo nets, slides, walls, spider nets… I haven’t had that much fun running and working out in AGES. The best part is that anyone and everyone can do the event! It isn’t timed-is completely for fun-and there are detours if an obstacle doesn’t look like your cup of tea! I can’t wait until next years event!

November 15th in Phoenix! I am already signed up! This next year I plan on running with a group of my best friends… it is a really fun “team” event. There were teams of Wonder Women, Super Heroes, even some wearing their prom dresses!

BEER TENT

All cleaned up and ready to head home!
