A Day in the Life of my Six Month Old
Technically the day starts at midnight… SO-
2AM Dirk wakes up. Squirly, little tike. Drinks a whole bottle. I put him back down in the crib when he is still awake-boy would cuddle all night if he could.
2:30AM Creep back into bed. I don’t know why. Gabe couldn’t be woken up unless I banged a pot against the wall. Alas, I creep tiptoe.
8AM To be frank, this is sleeping in A LOT! Dirk and I are usually up and at ’em by 6AM. I thank my stars for more sleep. Crawl out of bed. Put on a dry fit outfit(we live in the desert). Start the coffee machine(thank Gabe silently for prepping it for me). Turn on the computer. Check the weather/email. Give our cat Baby Girl some love.
8:15AM Prep Dirk’s breakfast. Move the highchair into the kitchen. Get out a bib, cloth wipe, spoon. Prep the stroller with hat, keys, light blanket and cellphone. Get out the cloth diapers from the dryer. Put one on the stairs to take up with me when Dirk wakes up.
8:30AM Eat something. Greek yogurt or oatmeal are my usual go-to faves right now.
8:45AM Dirk starts to chit-chat in his room. I turn off the computer. Take one last swig of coffee. Grab the cloth diaper and head upstairs to my sleeping beauty. Seriously? He slept a ton! Well, if you don’t count the 2AM wake-up call : ).
9AM Freshly diapered. New little onesie on. We head downstairs for the breakfast of champions = sweet potatoes! After clean-up and re-setting the scene in the kitchen for lunch we hop into the stroller.
10AM-11AM Definitely late to be outside. Already in the 90s. But the D Man LOVES his time outside so I will take the heat, sweat pouring down my back, dry, unbearable heat.
11AM-11:30AM Tend to the front yard. Rake, water potted flowers and sweep the porch.
12PM Diaper Change! Bottle. Car time…vrroooommmm!!! Then we make it through one book before I recognize that it is surely nap time.
12:20-1:45PM Dirk sleeps. I clean the house. Eat a sandwich. Complete a weights circuit and ab routine. Work on ongoing projects-like painting all of the baseboards.
2PM Diaper change. Ready for lunch with some more deliciousness. We get to choose from apples, bananas, prunes, carrots, squash and sweet potatoes.
3PM We sit down to enjoy some classy TV with Ellen. We don’t watch TV during the day. Unless, one of us is sick… and then we watch a Disney Movie. Sometimes we miss Ellen, and that’s okay : ).
4PM Diaper Change. Bottle. Dirk and I read on average 6-10 books.
4:30PM A quick run-through of all of the nursery rhymes with our fun sing-along before we head upstairs for nap #2. It lasts 25 minutes- oy.
4:30-5PM Gabe gets home from work-takes out the trash. I get the pool supplies out and tidy-up.
5PM Dirk is AWAKE. Gabe and Dirk time.
6PM Gabe and I take turns making dinner. Tonight he made pasta. Scrumptious.
6:15PM Pool time! Gabe gets to set-up the pool for us… Dirk and I usually play in the pool around 1PM… but he slept in and well, we rearranged the schedule.
7PM Dry off. Clean-up and head upstairs for bath time! Dirk dances and sings really loudly on the floor in his bedroom as the tub is filling up. HAPPY BOY.
Dirk ADORES all water. He relishes in splish-splashing around. Loves a pink koosh ball and the green hippo.
8PM Diaper. Lotion. Bottle. Cuddles. Bed.
8:15-10PM Throw the cloth diapers in the laundry. Try to remember to put them in the dryer before we go to bed. BLOG. Gabe does the dishes. I clean-up the hurricane of fun that Dirk and I leave in our path.
THUS ends the day in the life of my six month old. Thankful that today Dirk decided to sleep in. Mama needs some shuteye.
C’est la vie.
