Hope all of your shopping is done for Turkey Day!
We got some supplies for cookies to make for The Toddler last night… egg-free, dairy-free, nuts-free, gluten-free. Crossing my fingers and toes that they taste good-because like it or not that is our life for the foreseeable future.
I plan on making two batches of cookies for us to have as a family that are allergy-free. Then two more batches of regular chocolate chip cookies-one to take with us to Thanksgiving-the other to drop off at our local Firehouse on the way to Thanksgiving.
It has been a long standing tradition to visit our local Firehouse on 9/11-but we want to make this another tradition for Thanksgiving. Plus they did save us when I was newly pregnant with Em-at home with The Toddler and we had a gas leak in the garage. They are just one city block away and The Toddler excitedly proclaims “Hot-Hot” as we drive past and proudly says “flag” as he waves at the large flag they have out front. I’m excited to give hugs to those that protect us-especially since they will be away from their families on this holiday.
It should be noted that if we had a Police Station close to us we would be doing the same-the closest one is over 45 minutes away. We give flowers and a thank you card to one of our local officers that patrols our area every year- The Husband used to be a cop and has told me time and again that they will not eat cookies that I make-or bring from a store. Sad that they can not be given the same sort of respect as fire fighters and that they have to worry about this. So flowers and a card it is!
Whenever we see a Police Officer-and they aren’t busy- we(The Toddler and I) go up and talk to them-give high-fives-say thank you-which sounds like “dank u” and remind The Toddler that if he ever needs help that he can always ask a Police Officer. It is paramount to us that we teach our children to respect and appreciate our local Fire Fighters and Police Officers.
We are extra grateful that our Brother-in-Law who is in the Navy gets to be home for this holiday season to spend time with my sister and his adorable daughter!
Tonight we will be heading to Zoo Lights for our annual tradition! So excited for cookies, lights, and Christmas Music with our little family! I think I will carry Em in the Ergo and we will just bring the umbrella stroller to zip around with The Toddler because he loves running around-much more-than being stuck in a stroller!
I have cinnamon on the stove roasting-our house smells like the holidays- and am off to go bake up some (hopefully) delicious cookies!
