Blame it on pregnancy- but my nose picks up any and all smells-the good, the bad, and the atrocious. I smelled gas coming from the garage and called the non-emergency police number to get the local fire departments number. Apparently, you are supposed to call 9-1-1 under those circumstances(just in case this happens to you). Within 30 seconds(I kid you not) the local fire department rolled up to our house and out popped five firemen. They scoured the garage and our house… our water heater was leaking gas. After a free stop over from the Gas Company(amazing response time as well) they turned off our gas and notified us that there was not a fix to be made.
We are in the market for a new water heater… YEP. Another month, another appliance. BUT- mind you, this could have been worse. So instead of the epic meltdowns of an extremely budget-conscious family as I have done in the past- I am going to not dwell on the money, but the company. The response time for both the Fire Department and the Gas Company was amazing! They are my heroes. Calls have been made, supervisors notified, that they have some great men among them.
I called our local handyman and he is working with us to put in a new one bright and early tomorrow morning. One night without hot water is fine by me. Right now I am thankful. Truly thankful.
AND- I am off to my Doctor’s with the Toddler to get a full work-up! Excited and nervous-rightly so with the Toddler. Either way it will be interesting.
Thank you to all the brave men and women out there that run toward danger to help. Your courage and sacrifice mean more than you will ever know.
