Em’s Nursery
LOVE- one of my best friends made this and it was completed at Em’s Sprinkle.
GORGEOUS
The changing table is one that I found at a garage sale after D was born. He was around 6-7 months old when I picked this up. I painted it gray so that it would mesh better with his nursery and am thinking that it should be painted a bright white now that it will be in Em’s room for the foreseeable future. The owl night light is the perfect brightness for early morning feedings-I used to turn on a lamp but then Em would think it was time to get up for the day-rough. The lamp in the corner is one that I used in my classroom years ago. The “LOVE” sign is a painted canvas with white push pins. It was a perfect nap time activity. The picture is from when I was two years old-my mom gave me the outfit from the picture and I can’t wait for Em to wear it! The paper lanterns were a recent addition… I definitely want to find two lavender flower ones to add to the grouping.
This gallery wall is a new addition. If you can’t tell(all of the empty frames). I have been slowly finding and making pieces that could go on this display wall. I made the ribbon garland last week during their dinner while we were at the table. I am contemplating buying a tassel garland for Em’s birthday and future use in her room or my office. The purple “Emma” sign is from her Aunt and Uncle in Hawaii-who graciously painted it purple from its’ original pink sheen-they know me so well! We have a small bow and hair band collection. I ADORE how Em looks in thick headbands! While I was pregnant I found a set of chewbeads on Zuiliy that are for little girls and got her a set for when she is older. So precious.
Working slowly on figuring out why my printer will not print-the ink will literally not go out of the cartridges-even new ones. But I have plans on making some personal printables to fill in the frames.
Two printables I made for Em when I was pregnant. The shoes were mine from when I was little. The lamp and shade are new additions from the clearance section of Target. The toy is a favorite of Em’s that Nana got her.
I have several sections of bead board leftover from when I renovated our kitchen this past summer. I finally painted this piece purple with a can of free paint from Ace-they give out free quarts in the summer(I have over 12 different quarts of decorating paint)- and then used stencils to fill in a favorite saying of mine. Probably took about an hour and was free because it was all leftover parts.
I wanted to buy a glider that had pads on it FOR-EV-ER. I could not bring myself to buy one that broke the bank and we had luck finding a couple at Goodwill-but they creaked-or were without pads-or hurt like the dickens for the hours of feedings that took place in that chair. Em will not eat when The Toddler is around- so I escape upstairs to this spot 2-3 times a day and The Toddler does art, has snacks or is otherwise entertained downstairs for the 15-20 minutes we are upstairs. I would kill for a surveillance camera to see what he is truly up to- fortunately- 7 1/2 months in and he hasn’t made any mistakes while we were upstairs. This beauty is an online-only purchase from Target. I am very lucky that I get to write as a side-job while I raise my two little ones. Through sponsorship and contracts I was able to afford this little piece of heaven. My back thanks me every day.
The softest, sweetest quilt! My Aunt made a quilt for The Toddler and for Em. I cherish them and LOVE how much thought and care went into each one! Em LOVES crawling around this and it definitely is one that makes its way downstairs during the day! The Giraffe is from a local baby boutique for attending their opening day- Giraffes were sort of the “theme” I went with along with soft touches of pink, purple, and white for Em’s re-envisioned nursery.
As in The Toddler’s room- the only piece above the bed are simple white letters that spell out their names. The bumper is from one of my best friends who used it for her baby girl. The current crib sheet and white lace crib skirt are from Goodwill. The purple stool is from a friend and we just repainted it to match. I love purple if you can’t already tell. The humidifier we use is for white noise AND for cool-mist. The desert air is a bit extreme for little ones. The crib is set in glass jars because we have scoripions in the house sometimes. There have been two upstairs-one in this room and one in our closet-both with reasons as to why they were there-construction-shoes brought in from garage… and the glass makes it so the scorpions can not climb the crib. Sure they can fall off the ceiling-but we try to do our best to do the things that we can control.
The bookshelf and bins are from my favorite store Target. Target for the win! They are full of treasured toys and goodies. The pink flower arrangement was in my nursery when I was little from one of my mom’s best friends- The Toddler always stops to smell the “roses” when we go and visit Em after her naps. The blocks are painted for Em’s name from blocks scavenged at the Goodwill.
There are two sets of black out curtains on the other side of this ruffled beauty. There are on average 340+ days of sunshine a year here and boy does it get bright in her room! Her room faces directly east and fills with light as soon as the sun peaks over the mountains… JOY. After TWO sets of black out curtains, a set of white wood blinds and this ruffle curtain set you still see light… but it is just warm and soft. Not startlingly bright! A basic necessity during nap time.
I painted Em’s room a soft lilac with a moonshine gray accent wall- a very, very BIG difference from the green that once was for The Toddler’s nursery. Six hours of painting-kid free is hard to find… so mostly Em and The Toddler were barricaded in other rooms with dad. Now Em’s room feels like Em. The purple is even lighter in person and not surprisingly the room feels much larger when not covered with dark paint- who knew? Ha. So excited that this room feels good- complete? No. But it feels warmer and more inviting. Well worth the time put in to the little projects and painting. Well, well worth it!
